Color Guide to Orange - Add Some Orange to Your Outfit

When it comes to “loud” colors, orange certainly finds itself towards the top of the list. When worn haphazardly, orange can draw a great deal of attention to itself; most often for the wrong reasons. As a result, it’s not uncommon for most men to stray away from trying to wear the color altogether. While concerns over wearing orange may well be valid, there’s no reason why one should consider this color completely off-limits, even if they’ve had a great deal of difficult wearing it in the past. Orange is considered to be a "Happy Color" - thus adding some orange accents into your ensemble will affect your mood and the mood of the people around you. With a few tips on your side, you can incorporate orange into a variety of different ensembles to great effect.

Understand Complimentary Colors
Perhaps the most important thing you can do when striving to wear orange is to understand which colors tend to be complimentary. In most cases, your best bet will be to pair orange with either blue, tan, white, gray, and purple, all of which can be extremely complimentary and will help to avoid any chances of clashing. In addition, red and yellow can work as they share very similar characteristics with orange, although the potential for clashing is a bit higher when trying to pair with these colors. Avoid green and black, all of which tend to result in a drab, boring outfit rife with clashing elements; even white can cause issues in certain situations.

Keep Accessories to a Minimum
Since orange has such a high potential for clashing with other ensemble elements, it’s important to keep excess colors to an absolute minimum. As a result, you’ll usually do best by leaving your accessories at home if you plan on wearing orange. Gold and silver, for example, both look rather unattractive when up against orange, and will do little to flatter your appearance. The one exception to the rule, however, is the tie. If you wish to inject orange into your ensemble in a subtle, yet effective manner, ties are definitely the way to go. Orange and cream striped ties can be very attractive when worn with a navy blue sport coat, as can simple solid orange ties. Experiment to determine which combinations work for you. Choose the shade of orange according to the season. Bright orange ties and pastel tones are best for the spring and summer. Good choices here are peach, coral, watermelon, and "safety" orange. Popular orange ties for the fall are Persimmon, Tomato, and Burnt Orange. Orange ties look best when worn with white or light blue dress shirts, and suits in navy, charcoal, and tan (summer).

Don’t Underestimate the Power of Jeans
When it comes to wearing orange, designer jeans can be your best friend. Dark-washed denim happens to be extremely complimentary to orange, no matter what the scenario. One of the most attractive casual ensembles you can throw together is that of the solid orange t-shirt, dark-washed designer jeans and dark-brown dress boots; not only does this look attract attention in a subtle manner, but it typically takes no more than a few minutes to put together. All this said, it’s important to stick to this wash in order to get the best results, as black, white or other unorthodox colors will clash with orange and should be avoided at all times. For an added effect, strive to find jeans that feature orange stitching, which is a great way to pick up the color of your shirt without looking like you’re trying too hard.
